Price of Gas

Thank you to all the donors who give away old cars so you can raise money to help people like me. Thank you very much for the help to purchase gasoline so I could to make the trip to Price, Utah to receive kidney dialysis treatment.  Driving to dialysis is 50 miles round trip, and I have to go three times a week just to stay alive.  With the price of gasoline, it has become really hard to be able to afford to drive there.  Thank you so much for your support.

Sincerely, G. Kiser

In Memory

Dear Kidney Kars,

I’d like to make this donation in honor of my father who recently passed away because of kidney failure.  This was his car.   Of course the car is now 15 years old, and not much to look at, but it still runs.  It was the first car he ever bought brand new and he loved it so much.  Seeing his car still sitting in the driveway makes us all sad.  But donating it to the Kidney Foundation of Utah feels like the right thing to do.  Thank you for taking this car and using it to helping other kidney patients like my Dad.

I am prepared for a Kidney Transplant

I am sixty years old and quality of life is very important to me.  My awareness of the Kidney Foundation has been brief since I was only diagnosed with kidney failure in August of 2007.  I’ve had diabetes and high blood pressure my whole life, I’ve had a partial amputation of my left foot and a bout with bone cancer which left me with metal pins in my hip.  But waking up in the hospital and being told that I had complete kidney failure was extremely challenging to me.  The people I’ve been exposed to in dialysis treatment have been phenomenal; the doctors, the staff, the nurses are marvelous.  They are my family now since my husband moved into a nursing home because of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.  I will be meeting with a transplant surgeon the end of April to prepare myself for kidney transplant surgery.  What depth of gratitude can I express to the National Kidney Foundation of Utah for the financial help to help pay for my needs.  Thank you for the continuous work of miracles you perform daily.  Most Sincerely,    B. Conley

I would like to thank the Utah Kidney Foundation

Dear Utah Kidney Foundation,

I would like to thank you for helping me pay my Cobra Blue Cross Blue Shield.  Kidney disease has forced me to give up my job, and I was worried about losing my health care coverage while I was sick.  I could not have paid for it to cover my kidney failure without your help.  Thank you.  Stephen  U.

I was shocked to find out I would be going on dialysis

Thank you all so much for helping us in a time of need. I am a full time student in college. Making ends meet is tough enough. When my wife and I found out about my kidney disease, it was so unexpected and disheartening.  Being only 24 years old, I was shocked to find out I would be going on dialysis and in need of a transplant.  Medical bills pile up and can be overwhelming.  Every little bit counts.  Thank you for helping to take away some of the financial stress associated with needing a transplant.  Please thank your donors.    S. Kidney Foundation warms hearts and homes this Christmas

Dear Kidney Foundation,

Thank you so much for paying our horrendous gas and electric bill.  I was feeling so helpless and hopelss after paying all my medical bills this month– not a penny was left over.  I thought our heat might get turned off.  I was worried sick because of how cold it’s been this week.  Your kindness is so much appreciated, it took a load off my mind.  When I get to a point where I can donate to our orangaization, I will.  I would like to help others, as you have helped us in our time of need.  Thanks again.— Signed, M. Macke (Utah Dialysis Patient)

Pick a Real Utah Charity for your Car Donation

Be sure to do your homework when donating your car to charity here in Utah.  There are some organizations with look-a-like names (for example: kars4kids instead of Kidney Kars, or Kidney Fund instead of National Kidney Foundation). There are also charities that fund-raise in Utah, even though they have no local presence and no one in Utah benefits from their services!  The worst, is believing you are donating to a good cause, when really, the middle man gets the biggest cut (some ‘charity’ car donation programs only give about 5% or 10% of the proceeds to the charity).   Call the charity, ask where their office is located, and what percent of the funds go to local programs.  Be sure to ask what those programs are.  Never donate to a charity that you’ve never heard of without first calling the Utah State Division of Consumer Protection (under the Department of Commerce).  The Division of Consumer protection ( http://www.commerce.utah.gov/ ) has information on all legitimate charities in Utah and can tell you what percent of the funding is applied to programs vs. overhead.  The National Kidney Foundation of Utah gets at least a couple of calls a month from donors, who think they’ve donated to Kidney Kars, but in fact, accidentally donated to Kars4Kids.  You might surprised you to learn who Kars4Kids really benefits : http://www.kcchronicle.com/articles/2007/11/06/business/local/doc4730548f382c6122372766.txt  Make sure you know who you’re donating to.  Pick a real Utah charity for your car donation!

Man you guys are fast!

I just wanted to thank you for your quick processing of our car donation!  I am so happy to know the donation is going to a legitimate charity, right here in Utah.  Thanks for making the process so easy.   Have a wonderful holiday. Regards, Natalie S.
