Thank you for the gas card! Gasoline to get to and from dialysis is a huge financial burden. Since I went into Kidney Failure, I’ve been told by my doctors to stop working (I had a very physically demanding job). Since then, my family finances have suffered greatly. Every penny we have now goes to my medical treatments, medications, and transportation.  Just before I went into renal failure I had gotten a second job in order to support my youngest son who is serving an LDS religious mission. My inability to work has crippled our whole family.  Everyday, I live with guilt for the stress my wife feels in having to take care of me while also working to support us.  The assistance to help pay for gas was a true relief.  Thank you Kidney Foundation for all that you do. I hope when I have my transplant and can work again, to make a donation  to you to help other patients in need.

Thank you for helping me pay my utilities

Hi my name is Agustine. Kidney Foundation helped
me with my utilities this winter and I am so grateful. Because of low creatine
levels due to kidney failure I get so very cold that I try to keep the house at
least 65 degrees. Because I’m blind (diabetes is what killed my kidneys and my
eyesight) I’ve got to move around to find things, and use my hands instead of
my eyes. When the house is cold, and with my creatine levels so low it became
hard to get around my own house. But we just couldn’t afford to keep the house
warm, it was too expensive, and we also needed to pay for my meds. My husband
was understanding, but it was hard. When I mentioned this at dialysis in
January when the temps dropped to subzero, my social worker told me there was
help through the Kidney Foundation. We were so grateful after 3 weeks of not
having any heat in the house after Christmas, to be able to turn the thermostat
up to 65 again was a true comfort. Thank you so much for this help. We hope my
husband will be my kidney donor by next summer–and if that happens I won’t be
so cold all the time! Thank you, thank you for helping make our lives a little

Dear Kidney Foundation,  I am so very grateful for your support.  The Gas card you provided to us was literally a “life-saver.”  My husband lost his job last month, and we could not afford the gas to get me to diaysis this week.  If you had not provided us with the gas money, I don’t know what we would have done.  Thank you. We received your letter dated January 22, 2011 letting us know that the Kidney Foundation of Utah had helped us with our water bill.  I don’t know who will read this letter, but I want everyone to know that the National Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idah was a Godsend. My husband is in kidney failure and cannot work because he’s got to go to dialysis 5 days a week.  He’s also diabetic and has high blood pressure–and all the terrible health problems that go along with those two horrible diseases.  I am so glad your foundation has people with feelings and who understand how hard it is to make ends meet when there is chronic illness at home. I had to quit my job as a CNA to care for my husband.  I cannot express adequately how much it means to know there are people at the Kidney Foundation I can turn to for emotional and also some financial support.  Thank you so much for your help, you have made our lives a little easier.  We are forever beholden to you.  Sincerely, Rocky & Candy T.

We struggled to make ends meet after kidney failure

I am writing this letter on behalf of me and my husband.  He was recently diagnosed with Acute Renal Kidney Failure.  He has been going to dialysis since August and has been out of work since then.  We have applied for disability but have been struggling to make ends meet.  We talked to his social worker and explained our hardship, and it was she who recommended we apply for help to the Kidney Foundation.  We were relieved to find out we could receive some assistance to help toward our house payment.  We would like to thank the Kidney Foundation of Utah for helping us in our time of need.  It was a time of great desperation and we cannot thank you enough.  Sincerely,  Christi & LeRoy C.

Being too weak to work has been rough

Just wanted to say thank you very much for helping to pay our Rocky Mountain Power and Questar utlity  bills.  Going from working 6 days a week for the past 25 years, to not being able to work at all has taken a toll on my and my wife.  I don’t remember much about my month in the hospital after my kidneys failed.  Now I have to be on dialysis 5 days a week and have been too weak to work.  It has been rough.  Thanks for trying to make it get a little easier.  — Jeff A.

Thank You for the Scholarship

Dear Mrs. Vetterli:  Thank you for the generous scholarship I was awarded Winter 2010 semester.  Earlier this year, in January, my transplanted kidney rejected and i had to go back on dialysis.  I waited for a kidney transplant but to no avail, nothing came.  I decided to start back to school this fall regardles of my dialysis status.  This semester is harder than I anticipated it would be with classes, work, and dialysis.  But I know it will be worth it when I can finally graduate this spring.  The scholarship from the National Kidney Foundation of utah & Idaho has greatly contributed to my endeavoers in my educational goals.  Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart.  S. I struggle to pay for meds

I am a kidney transplant patient.  When I had the transplant I was married, and not worried about paying for the drugs to keep my kidney from failing.  Now I am divorced, and on my own.  I had a brain aneurism within days after transplant.  I have also had several strokes.  I have been sewing in my home for a design firm to help support myself.  I struggle mentally and physically to do this.  I do not want to become a burden to the state.  I have worked hard to make I can support myself.  But I struggle to pay for my meds.  If it happens again, if I my new kidney fails– I won’t go back to dialysis or get another transplant.  It was hard the first time, but I am grateful for the time I have had and the ability to take care of myself with a little help from people like the Kidney Foundation.  God Bless you, thank you for your support.  Marie W.
