Why donate your Kidney Car in December 2021

Why donate your Kidney Car in December?

Aside from the obvious (snow-towing & parking violation situations) it’s also the end of the tax year.  Charitable car donations made in Utah and Idaho before December 31st will provide you with a 2020 tax write off. So if you’ve got a car on the street or in the driveway you’re not using, put it into gear for the National Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idaho kidney patient programs by donating to www.towKars.org or call locally 9-5/M-F at (801) 226-5111  Donating in December assures more help to Utah and Idaho kidney patients during the critical holiday and winter months.  When it’s hard for patients to afford both heat and medications, your car donation provides us with the funding to help them.

What about the free towing?

  • it’s FREE
  • takes as little as 24-48 hours (or more if you need time to get it ready!)
  • you do NOT have to be there when the car’s towed

What about the tax deduction?

The IRS allows donors to claim one of two values as the deduction.  Obviously newer model vehicles with lower miles will give you the best tax deduction. But we also accept any vehicle with a clear title, 4 inflated tires and a complete engine/transmission (doesn’t need to work, it just needs to be IN THE CAR).

  1. Up to $499 (generalized tax receipt)
  2. The Car’s actual selling price

So you can claim either the $499 or the car’s actual selling price, whichever is highest.  The National Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idaho is required to notify you of the car’s selling price over $500 so you can make the choice how much to claim.

Who benefits from my towKars.org Kidney Kars donation?

If you use the local Utah & Idaho kidney kars website towKars.org to donate, 38% goes directly to serve over 3,000 Utah and Idaho kidney dialysis patients through Medical Financial Aid.  The National Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idaho provides aid to help patients with: medical bills, medications, rent, utilities, transportation, medical kidney nutrition supplements, and dental bills.  Most of the financial aid is provided to patients trying to become eligable for the kidney transplant waiting list.  This requires patients to pay off medical bills, have 100% updated dental work (any cavity or infection can cause a donated kidney to reject), and keep the patient in stable housing.  The medical kidney nutrition is vital, since it allows the patients blood work to show healthy ranges of nutrients important to sustain a donated kidney (iron, oxygen, calcium, etc).

Make sure to donate locally to ensure maximum use of your donation.

Most car donation programs are not local to Utah and Idaho, and do not benefit Utah or Idaho patients.  So donating to towKars.org assures you maximum accountability that your donation is going where we say it’s going.  Donations made locally help local friends and family.

Donate a Kidney, Donate a Car, Both Save Lives

The National Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idaho partners with Yes Utah! and Yes Idaho!

Organ Donor registry to promote organ donation. As of today, nearly 114,000 people are on the transplant waiting list, and over 2/3 of those on the list need kidneys, so organ donation is very important to the National Kidney Foundation. Kidney disease has no cure, only dialysis treatments or a kidney transplant. We opt for the latter if the patient qualifies and is healthy enough for a transplant. If you are interested in becoming a kidney donor in Utah, please visit https://www.yesutah.org/ or in Idaho at https://www.yesidaho.org/

In the meantime, donating your old car for a tax deduction (and free towing) to the National Kidney Foundation of Utah and Idaho is how we can continue to lighten the burden, and improve the quality of life for Utah and Idaho kidney patients while they await a life saving kidney.  So donate a kidney, donate a car, both save lives.  Donate your old car online to Kidney Kars at https://www.towKars.org

Thank you National Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idaho

Monday, July 8, 2013
Dear National Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idaho.
Recently, I applied for and received a financial emergency donation grant from the National Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idaho. It was applied to my mortgage payment at a time when it was severely needed. I don’t know what I would’ve done without your help. My only income is Social Security & Retirement, and when I require additional medications or hospital stays it does not cover all our expenses! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this donation/grant. I was able to catch up on some medical bills. I really appreciate all the NKF of Utah & Idaho does for kidney patients, with help like this, all the information you provide on kidney disease, etc.
Sincerely,
R. Rudolph

I have a car now!

Dear Kidney Foundation of Utah,
My name is Evangeline W. I dialyze at Dixie Dialysis Center. I wanted to say thank you so very much for the down payment on a car. It has been a huge relief to my family and I can now go back and forth to dialysis without putting the rest of my family’s jobs in jeopardy. Being able to get to doctors appointments in my own car has significantly lightened the burden for me and my family. God bless you, Sincerely, Evangeline
P.S. Keep up the wonderful work!

Lost wallet and car stolen– the National Kidney Foundation of Utah helps Utah kidney patients

Dear National Kidney Foundation, Just wanted to drop you a note telling you how grateful we are for this program that helped us with a large utility bill this summer.  On the 1st of July, I lost my wallet with $2,000 in cash from a paycheck that I had just cashed. I think it fell out of my car when I got out to go to the grocery store, and when I came back to look for it, it was gone! Then over labor day weekend, our car was stolen. It was found 3 days later with a punctured tire, and towed to an impound yard. We had to wait until our next pay day to get it out of impound! Even though it was not our fault the car was stolen, they charged us $960 to get the car out of impound. So it is with deeply grateful hearts, we say “thank you” for being the one piece of good news and good luck we have had in a long time. We are so grateful to the Kidney Foundation for their help in getting our utility bill paid so we could buy our meds and keep current on our insurance premiums. God bless you for all you do for kidney patients! Sincerely, V. & B. McMarin, Sandy, UT

Gas Money was Literally a “Life-Saver”

Dear Kidney Founation, I am so very grateful for your support. The gas card you provided so I could get to dialysis this month was literally a “life-saver”.  My husband just lost his job and we literally did not have enough money for the gas it would take to drive me to dialysis.  We appreciate your help in our desperate time of need.  In moment’s like this, we know God blesses our lives through other people reaching out.  God Bless you, thank you.  Alicia G.

1196 lb. Giant Pumkin Drops on Kidney Kar from the Sky

Well, a crane actually…..but it could happen.  If you want to watch them do it, come to HeeHaw Farms in Pleasant Grove this Saturday, October 23rd at 1:00 p.m. (exit 275 for North Bound I-15 Traffic/ exit 278 for South Bound I-15 traffic).  The 1996 Pontiac 6000 being smashed by pumkins (hey, isn’t that the name of a rock band?) will be donated to the Kidney Kars program!  Come have some Halloween fun ! See you there.

Pretty Sweet Kidney Kars Donation I’d Say.

Thank you so much to C. Gunderson of South Jordan for the gorgeous black 2000 Porsche Boxter.  It had a pricey blown transmission, but was in overall good shape.  With a little help from our friends at IAA (Insurance Auto Auctions) the Kidney Foundation of Utah was still able to sell it for more than $6,000 bucks at a Las Vegas Auto Auction.  That money will go straight into Utah medical research, and into the hands of kidney patients who are in desperate financial times because of the cost of their medical treatments, medications, and transportation to and from dialysis.  That was one gorgeous car– and a most generous Kidney Kars donation!  We are so grateful Ms. Gunderson for your humanitarian!

Both my son and I are on dialysis

We cannot thank you enough for helping us make our car payment so me and my son Beau can get to dialysis. We both dialyze at the same clinic and live together to cut living and transportation costs. This April, I filed my income taxes, claiming Beau as a dependent. The E-file was kicked back saying my son’s Social Security number was tied to another tax return which claimed working income, a spouse, and a dependent! Someone had stolen his social security! They froze his Medicare and other disability benefits. We are still fighting to clarify his identity–in the meantime, we still have to pay our same bills–including the car payment for the car that gets us both to dialysis. Bless you for your help in our great time of need. It is so frustrating to be at the mercy of the ‘powers that be’. If we were healthy, could work, and not have to rely on anyone for our care it would be different. But the kindness and mercy you have shown us will not soon be forgotten by us. God Bless you. Sincerely, Pat M., Sandy, UT
