Why your Kidney Car Donation Means So Much

(In letter to all Kidney Foundation of Utah employees sent Friday, November 21, 2008):

I would like to remind you why we all work here.  We just received a call from the mother of a kidney patient who was evicted from her home a few months ago. She has a 2 yr. old son on a ventilator and on dialysis. She is now homeless and has been living in her car. Pam Grant, the pediatric social worker at the U, called and asked if we could make an emergency financial grant to get her in an apartment NOW. Thanks to the many donations we receive thorugh Kidney Kars and generous cash contributions, we were easily able to grant that request.  I just received a thank you call from that child’s mother.  Overwhelmed, she spoke in words broken up by tears of gratitude. Thank you all for making this kind of wonderful thing happen.  Sincereley, Deen Vetterli, CEO, National Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idaho

Thank You for your Kidney Kar Donation

We would like to express our gratitutde for everything you’re doing to help support kidney patients here in Utah.  Being on dialysis is very taxing and puts a heavy strain on the family finances.  Without your help, I dont know if I could afford to drive to a treatment center to get to dialysis.  I still have children at home, and want to be a positive influence in their lives for as long as I can.  Thank you for making it possible for me to continue to lead a productive life and to remiain in the lives of my children, who still need me.  Please express my gratitude to all the peole who donate a Kidney Kar or give money to the Kidney Foundation, they are blessing to me.  May their lives be blessed because of their generosity.  Sincere thanks from a grateful recipient.  – Y. Ties, not Tires for Father’s Day

Tires, not Ties for Father’s Day?

Showing you Care…with a Car

(Provo, UT, June 15, 2008) —    Did your dad teach you to drive?  Did he show you how to change a tire, or maybe even the oil filter? Did he teach you to drive for blocks looking for the cheapest gas in town? The National Kidney Foundation believes you can make this father’s day special with a very unique gift for all he taught you about cars.  Honor your father by donating your used car to the Kidney Kars donation program of the National Kidney Foundation of Utah.  Not only is father’s day a wonderful time to donate to honor dad, gas prices are sky high, and there’s no better reason to both honor Dad and get rid of a gas-guzzler all at the same time.  Kidney Kars donations are sold or recycled to raise money for local medical research, patient services, organ donation and public education. Talk about getting good mileage! You may also find yourself in the express lane for a tax deduction.  In fact, eighty-seven (87%) percent of Americans who donated cars, vans, trucks or boats last year itemized their tax returns and were able to reap a charitable deduction for their contribution.   For more information, or to donate your car, van, truck or boat, call 1-800-TOW-KARS (1-800-869-5277) or donate online at www.towkars.org. Save gas, recycle, help kidney patients, save on your taxes.  Honk if you think Dad would be proud.

Thanks to Kidney Kars I can go to College

My name is Brooke.  I received a scholarship from the Kidney Foundation so I can become an Occupational Therapist Assistant.  I received this scholarship because, 3 1/2 years ago I received a kidney transplant. When I was 10 I as diagnosed with level 3 reflux. They tried to fix the problem surgically, but the scarring and the damage was irreversible.  Four years later, my mother was able to give me her kidney.  It was a rough experience, but I felt so much better after the transplant.  I had become so sick over those 4 years, I did not realize how bad I felt, until I felt good again– thanks to the Kidney Transplant.  I am so thankful to the Kidney Foundation for this scholarship.  Thank you for all the Kidney Kars donations, thank you to the corporations and individuals who are willing to look after those of us who have had some difficulties in their life.  The Kidney Foundation is helping me acheive a career– one that will support me and allow me to help others in pain.  I express complete appreciation to the donors and to the National Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idaho.   Sincerely,  Brooke R.

Gas for Dialysis

Dear Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idaho,

I am writing this letter to personally thank you for the grant to buy gas. It is helping  me to get diaysis and without it I don’t know how I could pay for transportation.  God Bless you.

 Thank you.

Price of Gas

Thank you to all the donors who give away old cars so you can raise money to help people like me. Thank you very much for the help to purchase gasoline so I could to make the trip to Price, Utah to receive kidney dialysis treatment.  Driving to dialysis is 50 miles round trip, and I have to go three times a week just to stay alive.  With the price of gasoline, it has become really hard to be able to afford to drive there.  Thank you so much for your support.

Sincerely, G. Kiser

In Memory

Dear Kidney Kars,

I’d like to make this donation in honor of my father who recently passed away because of kidney failure.  This was his car.   Of course the car is now 15 years old, and not much to look at, but it still runs.  It was the first car he ever bought brand new and he loved it so much.  Seeing his car still sitting in the driveway makes us all sad.  But donating it to the Kidney Foundation of Utah feels like the right thing to do.  Thank you for taking this car and using it to helping other kidney patients like my Dad.
